We highly recommend that you join your local British Bee Keeping Association ( BBKA for short ). You will find lots of like minded people, advice, support and interesting lectures. Joining your local association can also provide you with insurance for keeping bees - handy if you keep you bees in a very public place.
National Bee Unit / Bee Base
The National Bee Unit / Bee Base is a really useful site for advice about bee keeping. The National Bee Unit works with government bodies such as Defra to enhance our understanding of bees and bee keeping in general. They do lots of clever research into disease and how best to manage colonies. Finally, they manage the team of bee inspectors - who will be happy to visit your hive and inspect your bees with you.
