History
These dogs have a nice little backstory. In the mid 1800’s, English workers moved to France to work in the lace industry, and many of these workers brought their small pet Bulldogs with them. The French people very quickly fell in love with them, especially with their upright bat-like ears. Breeding of this smaller Bulldog started quickly and by the 1800’s they had become a popular household pet. Many Americans who visited France would take one of these dogs home and their popularity in the states also soared.
Behaviour
The French Bulldog is an affectionate breed. It's the kind of dog that loves running up to you and snuggling down in your lap. They're very good natured dogs and are ideal for families with small children, as long as they are respected. They’ll love nothing more than being included in family activities and you’ll find that they seldom leave your side. They can be a bit stubborn and training may take a little more time, but with patience you’ll get there. Rewarding them with treats or an affectionate belly rub will help speed up the process. French Bulldogs get along well with other dogs and pets, and may be slightly weary of strangers but will be fine with them after getting to know each other.
Temperament
These dogs have a very pleasant and playful temperament. They are sweet little dogs who will love to play and explore all their surroundings. They're also very sociable and will get along well with most people and other dogs. It is important that your Frenchie receives plenty of training, with treats as a reward, in order for them to learn their place in the pack and not develop any alpha-dog tendencies.
Health Problems
French Bulldog's can be prone to canine hip dysplasia (CHD), patellar luxation (dislocation of the kneecap), brachycephalic syndrome (breathing difficulties), intervertebral disc disease (pressure on spinal cord that can cause paralysis), allergies and some skin problems (particularly if the dog's face wrinkles are not cleaned enough).

I love my frenchie - Kevin,
Hi, my frenchie called Adel is now 5yrs old. He was a very friendly dog for the first 12 mths. He has changed over night to being. Not so friendly. He does not like kids, bikes. Footballs he scream when he hears them or more so sees them. He is far from daft. He picks up so much. His intelligence is so clever. He learns so much without me excpecting it. If i had a choice again l would have a house full. He just brakes up my day. I love frenchies.
