Deilenaar Rabbits
Deilenaar History
A Dutch breeder named Ridderhof is credited with the creation of the Deilenaar breed in the Betuwe area of the Netherlands. It is believed that the Flemish Giant, the Chinchilla, the New Zealand Red and the Tan all make up the Deilenaar’s heritage.
The breed gained recognition in the Netherlands in 1940 just before the outbreak of war in Holland. It is thought that this is why the breed took quite some time to spread to other countries.
The breed was recognised in the United Kingdom at the end of the 1980s and is bred in a number of European countries but it is rarely seen outside of Europe.
Deilenaar Behaviour
Deilenaars are a strong and healthy breed who have an even temperament. They would make good pets but are rarely kept by anyone other than rabbit breeders and fanciers.
Deilenaar Varieties
Deilenaars only come in a rusty brown/mottled black colour.
