Gerbils are very keen on personal hygiene. They spend a lot of time washing themselves, to keep their fur clean and soft, and they like to groom each other too.
Very occasionally the gerbils may need some assistance with their cleaning regime, especially if they are unwell or old (and any sign that a young gerbil is struggling to clean itself should be taken as a prompt to give your pet a health check).
Gerbils like clean living - do both themselves and their cage-mates
This section of the Omlet Gerbil Guide covers various hygiene issues, from cleaning cages to trimming your pets’ nails. We’ve also included some information on sand baths, which we explain in more detail on our How To Bathe Gerbils page.
