As hamsters get older, there are a number of health conditions that can occur. Your hamster will be less active and will sleeping more as it ages - this is perfectly natural and nothing to worry about. However, some older hamsters are unlucky enough to develop one of the following conditions:
- Cataracts
- Constipation
- Dry Ears
- Kidney Failure
- Liver Problems
- Thinning Hair
- Tooth problems
- Tumors
Older hamsters may develop certain age-related health conditions
Hamsters' lives are short, so at 18 months your pet is getting old. Pet insurance, or a bit of money put aside each week will cushion the blow of any vet bills. It’s an upsetting thought, but you need to be realistic and bear in mind that although many conditions can be treated, others cannot. Giving your pet the best life possible is all you can do. Enjoy your time together!
