This was purchased as a gift for my mother that just got chickens for the first time. We also bought one a year ago. Works great! Good value and great customer service.

AC power + separate controller = PERFECT combination!
I have been using this product for about 3 months so far. Over the years, I have tried other automatic doors on my home built chicken coop, but I have 2 main challenges:
1. I live in Minnesota where wired AC power is a huge advantage in winter months.
2. My coop is designed in such a way that any automatic door must be mounted INSIDE the coop.
Other automatic doors are usually only powered by alkaline batteries that freeze and die in extreme Minnesota winter temps (-30F, -34.4C). However, the Omlet Universal Automatic Chicken Coop Door has an option to use an AC power adapter instead of batteries. The DC transformer has a barrel plug that connects inside the controller. This powers both the drive and the controller from a single power source.
Also, other automatic doors are often designed with the drive (motor) and controller (sensors, processor) as part of a single unit, so they can only be mounted OUTSIDE a coop in order for the light sensor to work properly. Fortunately, the controller for the Omlet Universal Automatic Chicken Coop Door is separate from the drive unit, connected by an umbilical cable. This flexible design gives you the freedom to mount the door inside the coop while the controller stays outside, exposed to sunlight.
Even better, the door itself slides horizontally, which takes up the smallest footprint on the coop wall, and because it's self-contained in its own frame, it's so much easier to install over other automatic doors. It also has safety sensors that very few other automatic doors have. The controller is simpler and easier to use than other automatic chicken doors. My coop already has windows and an overhead light, but if yours is dark, the Omlet coop light is a nice extra, and simply plugs into the door controller. It's just a really good design, and the entire experience, from installation to operation, is enjoyable.
I mounted my controller outside, above the arched doorway of the coop. I mounted the Omlet automatic door inside the flat coop wall, then built a simple box around the door chassis to keep it clean. It's practical, and maintenance-free.

Easy to snap on and secure, no tools needed
I purchased this in addition to the auto coop door so I could have a clean and secure install of the auto door system. It is sturdy, machined well and secure. I did watch a video on where it was best clamped on the Eglu roof and that made a big difference.

Time Saving Genius!
Took forever to arrive, but absolutely worth it!! I used to get up every day to let the chickens out at a decent time, go back out during the day to check on them and do feed /water, and then make sure I was home around dusk to shut them back up… it was a chore I had to do 3 times a day! It consumed WAY too much of my time. Now I just check on them once a day and they get out earlier and are tucked away safe every night with zero effort from me. Actually brought a tear to my eye first time it worked! Should have bought this years ago…

Freedom and Safety
I have successfully installed the automatic door - and it's freedom from worry for me, and safety for my two spoiled chickens.
I've recommended it to my son, who has a small farm. One night he forgot to lock up his chickens, and sadly only two very traumatised birds survived the vigilant fox. I only have one suggestion regarding the automatic door. Your very thorough handbook should have a section titled "For old farts". It should start: "To get the chicken door to open and shut when you want it to, first lift up the front of the control box. To start, Press the OK button - ( that's the one with OK written on it ) Sit down. When you have recovered from the stress, press the downward arrow. Go and have a cup of tea...."

Auto Door & Light
Very happy with the door and the light works perfectly I use the timer setting because my chickens go in at a certain time and not based on daylight. Chickens love it they don’t have to wait for me to come down to let them out.

Works well but hard to fit
Pleased with the door in the end but the instructions were rubbish and the mechanism was upside down to the illustration. I had to get a friend to help and tried lots of different ways and expected it wouldn’t work but it did so thank goodness. Otherwise it would have got five starts.
