Fantastic hutch
Bromley,
This hutch is great, keeps my mind at ease for the safety and the warmth of my piggies. The only downside is that it was slightly fiddly trying to put the run together and the instructions could’ve been slightly more clearer

Best on the market, but the design could be improved
Emma,
Bought two of these hutches a few years ago and have LOTS of experience using them. The best you can get on the market in terms of keeping piggies warm and giving them lots of nice space and a lasting product, much better than wood, but.... a few gripes! 1. Each little piece of the run has to be attached by dozens and dozens of plastic clickable attachments, which hurt your fingers after a couple of hours of assembly (yes, it will take you an afternoon especially anything bigger than the 1 metre run). The floor of the run comes as a nicely pre-assembled piece, why can't the rest come like that (I assume because none of the rest of the run is square...)? It all feels a little flimsy when you move the run (and hutch because they can't be detached from each other) around the garden to give piggies fresh grass and this can only really be done by two people, otherwise you have to drag the whole thing across the grass and it's heavy! 2. There is no quick release button to detach the hutch from the run, which I just assumed would be standard. This causes a few problems (related to the point above), one of them being that poop and straw get caught in the area just outside the hutch door where it meets the run and the ONLY way you can get rid of this (it goes solid with the piggies feet treading on it all the time) is by crawling into the hutch yourself (cobwebs n all!) and out into the run, easier said than done for some people! 3. The removable base of the hutch doesn't *quite* fit into the top of a wheelie bin, which is absolutely maddening because it means you have to remove the dirty bedding by hand first then chuck the rest into the green wheelie bin and some always spills on top of me (eew). It would just have required a bit more forethought from the designer to make this the perfect size to get into the top of the bin and help all of us owners out. 4. The back door sometime sticks and is difficult to get into place to lock, we can't work out why this is. 5. Nothing is SQUARE!!! I assume this is done on purpose to stop people buying products that aren't Eglu related, but it's quite a drag. If you want to enlarge your piggies property by adding runs that have straight edges, forget it. The Eglu has slanting edges everywhere. We've had so many escapees over the years as they sneak out of the little gaps that are created where the edges of the runs don't meet. 6. If your piggy refuses to return to its hutch (where you can lock it in and catch it from the back door) it will be almost impossible to catch him or her because there's only one door into the run from the front. Unless of course you climb into the run itself. 7. Piggies really dislike walking on the mesh floor, I think it hurts their tiny paws. They always seem to plan their route across to avoid stepping on the wire. I realise this is because rabbits dig, but guinea pigs don't so there's no need for a wire floor... Having said all that, this is the best you can get on the market, I just wish it was better / more simply designed.

Hi Emma, Thank you for taking the time to share this detailed review. We welcome feedback, so this has been passed on to our Product Design team for them to take into consideration when making any changes to the design and future products. One recommendation that we would give if you wished to have another point of access nearer to the hutch front door would be to add an extra door on the run. More information related to this product can be found here. The issue that you described related to the back door being sticky sounds unusual. Don't hesitate to provide us with more details and photos by email to allow us to try to understand what is happening and resolve this issue with you. In addition, there should not be little gaps as the edges of the run should meet and be secured using the clips, so we would be able to look into this with you as well if you'd like. Finally, to make the ground more confortable, we would recommend ensuring that the underfloor mesh is well buried into the ground. Otherwise, you have the possibility to switch the underfloor mesh for our anti-tunnel skirt. If this possibility would interest you, please contact us and we can assist you with ordering it. I do like it but
Hannah,
Just received this and it was a nightmare to construct. I remained positive even though hubby was determined to send it back. Once constructed, the hutch and run are sturdy. The whole thing has a quality feel about it. My main gripe is access once the piggies are in. As I don’t possess go go gadget arms, I find it incredibly difficult to move things around or indeed retrieve the piggies from the run. Why, when you spend £350 on a cage, should you expect to pay out again to have another access door. I feel that a second access door should be as standard. That said, overall, I think this is a nice environment for guinea pigs.

Spare hutch and run
Deirdre,
I bought this as I was unexpectedly getting two new bunnies and I already had two in my walk in Omlet run. I needed to keep the pairs separate but wanted something as big as possible for two rabbits. I used it for a week for this purpose, then one of my other rabbits had to spend time at the vets and recuperating indoors. I decided to split my big run for the others and then let my little one in the Eglu once he was a little better. Now everybody is in the big run and the Eglu is kind of obsolete at the moment. I will definitely use the hutch in the winter and work out where the run works best. The four metres and hutch is long and is murder to clean out unless you like tunnelling on your elbows! I want to buy a second door but they're out of stock. We'll, they're not really out of stock because they're available with the runs as a package. And I don't feel confident cutting a section out to apply the self fit door. At some point I'll probably run a tunnel from the Omlet to the Eglu run and use it as an extension or a spare. For everyday use and cleaning it's just too low unless you buy extra doors for access. I would opt for the walk in run every time. Can't fault that.

Nice and secure but some room for improvement.
Zoe,
We have had this for about a month and the guineas have moved outdoors to their new home now. They are happy and it is lovely to see them outside. The order arrived as planned. Assembly was ok but does require watching the video first to get it right. Took about 2 hours. The hutch is secure and easy to clean and the run is reassuringly secure too. I find that when the door is opened it is too large an opening meaning they don’t have a nice place to hide and seem to feel quite exposed. A smaller opening would be better for them so we have fitted cardboard in the hole with a little opening at the bottom. It would also be great to be able to look in at them without opening the whole of the back wall, although I realise this would complicate the construction. Overall a great product. I hope we have a long term use from this

Great cage, needs smaller wire
Annette, QLD,
The eglu hutch with 2 metre extension is absolutely huge! My pigs love it, it is very easy to clean and well insulated. It is also well constructed and I am expecting it to last much longer than the timber variety. My only complaint is that it is definitely not snake proof - a python could easily slip between the bars. I have gone over the cage again with a snake proof wire mesh but for the cost I was hoping for better.

Love love love it!
Mandi,
Love love love this product... better than my expectations... only one downside.... worst instructions and diagrams ever created which meant it was very hard to put together and took a long time! Also think something went a miss because there’s a gap between run mesh and top of house hohum

Fiona,
I purchased the Guinea Pig hutch with the 2m run for my two piggies in early December 2017. I will be honest and say that in the early days I almost wished I hadn't bought it as it is quite expensive and took so so long to put together and it's impossible to move it on my own (I get at least two people to help me due to the structure of the cage/wire, I feel like it's going to fall apart if not supported on all sides when moved). The actual hutch part is awesome, super easy to clean and with the recent hot weather we've had it stays surprisingly cooler inside although I do take my GP's indoors if the outside temp reaches excess of 37/38 (celsius). The wire run itself I'm still not convinced is the best design, size wise it's great but I feel like there are too many sections to it, so the more joins it has, the more weak points it has also. I also bought the full length heavy duty cover and I must say it is definitely worth it. We had some stormy weather and I was able to overlap the cover from where the run joins the hutch and it prevented any rain getting in the hutch, I definitely felt they were well protected with this cover. Overall I am now glad I bought it.

My guinea pigs love their new home.
Sally,
Although my boys love their new home there are a couple of things I would like to see improved. The door is designed for chickens , it is too big for my boys I hang a mat over the front to reduce the door height, this makes them more secure. The food bowl that came with the run is useless for guinea pigs. I would also like to have another door in the side of the run. The base for the run is unnessary for the guinea pigs so we haven't used it. Overall though I love the run, it is so much cleaner than their old cage , they really seem happier.
